I study the Type IV Pilus (T4P) system of Francisella tularensis. T4P are major virulence determinants that serve as both a multifunctional pilus fiber and a protein secretion system. Identifying and characterizing T4P secreted proteins along with determining the major structural components of T4P fibers will provide insight into virulence and pathogenesis of Francisella tularensis.
